Qeshm Global Geopark Shines at Asia-Pacific Geoparks International Conference
The 8th Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Conference has commenced in Cao Bang, Vietnam, with the active participation of representatives from over 500 geoparks across the region—including Iran’s Qeshm Global Geopark.
According to rahbordbazar, quoting goodnewsagency, this international event, running from September 8 to 15 (18 to 25 Shahrivar), aims to promote the exchange of experiences, showcase capacities, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and support the preservation and development of UNESCO Global Geoparks’ values.
On the sidelines of the conference, a special exhibition was organized to introduce the attractions and programs of member geoparks. Qeshm Global Geopark is taking part with an active booth that highlights the island’s geological richness, natural heritage, indigenous culture, and geotourism potential.
Sajjad Ashgarf, Director of Qeshm Global Geopark and Iran’s representative at the event, stated:
“Qeshm Geopark, as the first registered geopark in the Middle East, has played a vital role in bridging geological science with sustainable development. It has successfully engaged in community participation, women’s empowerment, and the promotion of community-based tourism. These achievements are now being recognized as models within the Global Geoparks Network.”
In recent years, Qeshm Global Geopark has solidified its position on the UNESCO Global Geoparks list, becoming a hub for scientific and cultural tourism development in the region. Its active presence in such events offers opportunities to expand international engagement, attract specialized tourists, and promote Iran as a country rich in exceptional geological resources.
